Why do you want to travel?
It sounds simple but it is complex. Answers like “All my friends are doing it” or “I’ve always wanted to travel” just won’t cut it. So here are other questions you can consider to help you figure out your why:
- What travel stories have you heard from friends and family that have captivated you?
- What pictures of far-away places have you seen that draw you and inspire curiosity?
- What books have you read or what movies have you watched that make you want to go visit a place or experience a culture?
- What have you experienced in your past travels that make you smile on remembering or light you up when you tell someone about it?
Take the time you need to answer these questions. Let the questions sit with you for a few days and notice what comes up for you. Afterwards, look back at all your answers. What’s common among them? What patterns emerge in your answers?
Now answer the question: Why travel at all?
Consider that your answer to this question is your current Why. Over time, this may change. As you travel, you’ll learn what you really enjoy as opposed to what you used to enjoy or thought you’d enjoy. Feel free to adjust or change your why as you grow and experience more of this fabulous world.
